Hi Lynne
Sorry to hear about the pain- it must be so hard if you can't take painkillers.
I have been using various lavender products to help me sleep- I go for the purest ones I can find- as they seem to be more helpful- but they are a bit pricey. Not a guaranteed miracle cure I know but it helps me. If you are able to have a warm bath I find that helps me to relax. I'm a big fan of the natural cosmetics company Lush they do a balm that you rub on your temples called 'dreamtime'- I also rub it on my wrists, under my nostrils- anyhwere I can smell it!
I also took Amanda's advice and a trying an arnica gel for joint pain.Couldn't get the one she recommended by weleda but my health food shop recommended another called arnica extra. I've been using it for a few nights now and it seems to be helping- although that could be the paracetamol as well. I'm going to try it for a few days without any painkillers and see what happens.
My brother gave me a sample of a gel caled biofreeze which I quite like too.
Good news abut your grandson though, which will cheer you up. Look forward to seeing the pics.
Hope you can get some relief
Maria x

Oh Lynne, sleeplessness is just the worst! I have suffered from this for weeks now.
I try all sorts of remedies- one is the arnica gel by Weleda which I have alsways used or the oil from Culpeper's for aching joints.
The warm/hot bath is an excellent suggestion, if you're able to baths.
I know I drink too much of the red stuff and I also know it isn't really advisable for a good night's sleep but when you're desparate.................LOL
I used to have lavender drops and chammomile drops on my pillow but I began to find the odour overwhelming....LOL
Also try a chammomile tea with honey.
Valerian
Valerian is a type of herb prepared from the roots of the plant which is used for its sedating and anxiolytic effect. Valerian has been used as medicinal herb since the time of ancient Greece and Rome. Valerian is best used for insomnia and other sleep disorders, as well as for restlessness and anxiety. Valerian is best taken for a longer period of time (several weeks) before one sees any effect. Valerian is often recommended as transition medication after discontinuation of insomnia drugs. Valerian does not lose effectiveness over time. While Valerian is effective as a remedy for insomnia and anxiety, it has been reported to cause headaches in some individuals. This could be due to some people lack a certain digestive conversion property necessary to break down Valerian.
Passionflower
The roots and leaves of passionflower have a long history of usage by native Americans. The fresh or dried leaves are used to make infusion which is used to treat insomnia, anxiety, hysteria and epilepsy due to its anti-depressant and painkilling properties.
Chamomile
Chamomile is a popular gentle natural sleep aid. It can be taken as herbal tea with 2 teaspoons of dried flowers for one cup of tea. The active ingredients are essential oils such as chamazulene, flavonoids and coumarin.
Hope this helps!

Oh Lyn, so know how you feel, I am so sorry for you, Amanda has given you some great advise there, perhaps that will help, I know its tempting to go for the red stuff at a time like this, however, this will just upset the old liver and delay treatment,
Sending heaps of luv,
Ellie

Hi Lynne
Sorry about your latest blood test results. Usually the high liver levels mean you have to come off mtx but not pain killers. Maybe it would be worth you having a word with your GP to clarify this? I've had to come off it several times because of the same thing, but it hasn't stopped me taking pain killers.
Wonderful news abut your little man - hopefully you can post a photo sioon.
Take care
Love Jeanxxx

Hi, sorry you are in so much pain. I have a high liver result, and was told to use painkillers which don't affect the liver, so basically to avoid ones with paracetamol in them. It might be worth having a word with your gp. I find a hot water bottle to be very helpful. Hope you find something that works for you.
Good news about your grandson!

Hi Lynne
I'm sorry that you're having a lot of pain, I find that a hot water bottle helps. I think a small glass of wine would help.
Sorry I missed your birthday, belated greetings, I hope you had a lovely day and not too much pain.
Glad your grandson is improving, it would be nice to see a photo of him.

Hi Lynne, Sorry you're in so much pain, I too had to come off MTX because of problems with my liver. Can't really add to the excellent advice that has been given to help with sleep problems; I consider myself to be very lucky in this respect. Look forward to seeing a photo of your grandson, Love, Barbara XXXXXX

Hi Lynne - sorry to hear how much pain you are in, I just can't imagine being in this situation. I agree with Jean and Debbie that you should chat to your GP about painkillers - maybe something without paracetamol in. Hope you manage to get some rest.
